League team competitions

8 Sep 2026. First league fixtures were played.

7 Sep 2026. Fixture lists published on LMS and estimated ratings for new players.

18 Aug 2026. A total of thirty team entries were received compared with tewnty three last season. The new teams come from new clubs Warnodon and Evesham and the new u1350 rapidplay league.

26 Jun 2026. The Annual General Meeting of the association approved the organisation of a new rapidplay u1350 team competition. The following rule changes were also agreed : (1) that when a club has two teams in the same competition, the players nominated for each team should be entirely separate; (2) Players' ratings are based on the September ratings list or the time of registration and updated according to the January list to determine eligibility and board order; (3) captains are allowed discretion to order players in their teams plus or minus 100 points; (4) a players with an estimated rating has the rating adjusted to the first published A or K rating attained with immediate effect and the new rating determines eligibility and board order.

8 Sep 2026. The Championship League started with the Longbridge A versus B local Derby. Longbridge A won.

18 Aug 2026. Six teams, the same as last season, entered this competition: Kidderminster, Longbridge A, Longbridge B, Malvern, Redditch, and Worcester City. Last season Redditch were League champions and Longbridge A were runners-up.

 

Teams are of five players and there are no rating restrictions. The time control is 45+30 for home matches at Longbridge, Redditch and Worcester: Kidderminster and Malvern use a 60+30 time control for their matches. Teams play each other home and away with matches starting at 7:30pm.

Teams have four boards where the the players on boards 2, 3 and 4 have original September 2026 ECF ratings below 1850. There is no rating restriction for players on board 1. Time control is 45+30. Teams have fixtures with each other home and away and matches start at 7:30pm.

18 Aug 2026. The rapidplay League 3 competition is new for 2026-7 season. The annual meeting hope that it will provide league play for juniors and players new to the game. It is hoped that teams will be able to agree earlier starts to matches to make it easier for juniors to play. Four teams entered: Evesham 1350 Rapids, Longbridge, Redditch rapids 3 and Worcester Green Pawns.

 

Each team has four players where players on all boards should have original September ECF rapidplay ratings up to 1350. Each fixture consists of two rapidplay games between the same opponents with colours reversed for the second game. Teams play fixures home and away against each other. Fixtures start at 7:30pm or earlier.

Wheatley Cup Competition

Controller Ray Collett will invite entries to this competition in calendar year 2026. This team handicap tournament has teams of four players and teams with higher rated players are handicapped. Time control is 45+30. Players should be registered with the controller and player ratings are based on the ECF original standardplay list at the start of the competition. Where a player does not have a K or A rating, the controler will consult the WCA rating officer to allocate a rating for this competition.
